David van der Meer
David van der Meer is born in Wolvega (Holland) in 1979.
Form 2000 till 2004 he studied fine arts at CABK Kampen/Zwolle. In 2004 and 2005 he received a grant of the Fund for fine arts, design and architecture. In 2006 David received a nomination for de Dutch Buning Brongersprice 2006 and in 2008 he was selected for the ‘New wing 2’ by the foundation fine arts Amsterdam.
David is mainly a painter and mostly he works with oil paint on linen. In his paintings he creates his own world which reflects on the real world. The subjects he uses are as well as about the past, present as about the future. He thinks it’s important that you can experience the painting without understanding the story off the painting. For example: In his latest series he uses sunflowers. In these series they represent the supernatural but he thinks it’s more imported to experience it than to know it. His paintings mostly made in series. This is the reason you can see a line in his work.
Very recognizable in his paintings are de layers he uses. These layers came by experiment and are used to create debt in the paintings. Characteristic for David’s Work is that he keeps experimenting. This manner he developed his own very recognizable style.
David is married with Janita and he is father of three kids, two boys and a daughter.
His kids are big inspiration for his work. For example did he name a series after his daughter Gabriёlle. In this series he painted his daughter. His kids also like to work in his studio.
David is also involved within a social art project. He is responsible for community art project ‘Young and senior in the neighbourhood’. In this art project are young and senior people working together to make an art work. This is to stimulate contact between young and senior people and to create a better environment in bad neighbourhoods in Assen. http://www.drentwatchers.nl/Drentwatchers_kunstenaars_van_Drenthe.html
